Falling From Insanity - Redtenbacher's Funkestra | CD
Falling From Insanity is Redtenbacher’s Funkestra at a point where the project had become its own musical world: London rhythm-section precision, Stefan Redtenbacher’s bass-led writing, sharply voiced horns, and guests drawn from both sides of the Atlantic.
This is not a retro-funk exercise. The arrangements move from tightly locked ensemble lines to stranger corners: dub-weighted space, skewed rhythmic details, dirty keyboard colours and tracks that leave room for the individual personalities in the band. The groove is always central, but it is rarely straightforward.
The album features Fred Wesley on “Bom Le Bom”, alongside vocals from Lynae and the core Funkestra mix of brass, reeds, guitars, keys and rhythm section. Every track is written and arranged from the inside out: bass parts that drive the composition, horn writing that acts as a second rhythm section, and collective playing that gives the record its edge.
“Stefan, you know what the funk is about.”
— Fred Wesley
