The Colours of Joni | CD | Redtenbacher's Funkestra
'The Colours of Joni' is an album born out of love for the music of Joni Mitchell. Stefan Redtenbacher re-imagined his favourite Joni songs in an all instrumental setting straddling multipe genres - from Jazz Rock, Funk, Soul to Gospel. He invited world-class musicians to create these re-creations alongside his regular band. All filmed and recorded during 'Masterlink Sessions' in Surrey, UK.
It is also the companion record to ‘Both Sides Now’ offering Jazz & Funk reimaginations of Joni Mitchell songs featuring renown musicians from the UK and US music scene. Orphy Robinson (vibes), Pat Levett (harmonica), Tony Remy (guitar), Mike Outram (guitar), Simon Johnson (guitar), Carter Arrington (guitar), Ross Stanley (Hammond organ, Rhodes), Gunter Kurmayr (Wurlitzer) and the Varga String Quartet. Artwork by Michael Bendure and graphic design by Neil J Hart. Photographs by Rob Blackham (except where indicated).
All re-imaginations came to fruition during Masterlink Sessions and the video playlist can be watched HERE.
“Does it sound like a Joni Mitchell record? Absolutely not. But that’s entirely the idea; this is a reimagining of her work showcasing not only the great lady’s compositional skills but also the exceptional quality of the great musicians on show, all ring-mastered by bandleader and arranger, Stefan Redtenbacher.” (Mark Ede, BiGiAM management]
